Technical Meetings

The technical meetings are a monthly event, that aims to provide the Birmingham Perl community with an educational night of talks. If you wish to attend, please feel free to come along and listen in.

Talks Wanted: If you would like to do a talk, whether a 5 minute lightning talk, a 15 minutes talk or longer, please let us know and we'll add you to the schedule. If we are unable to add you to the schedule for the next meeting, we will give you priority at a future meeting.

Guest Speakers: Are you visiting Birmingham at some point in the future, and would be willing to give a talk? Or are you based outside of the West Midlands, but would be willing to make a trek over to see us and present a talk? If so, then I'd love to hear from you. Drop me an email with details of when you are in Birmingham and the talk you would like to present. I'll then arrange a schedule and confirm.

Colin Newell - failures

Abstract:

This talk will look at a new module distribution called "failures". What it is and how it works.

Barbie - Creating Excel Spreadsheets with Template Toolkit

Abstract:

A brief introduction to Excel::Template and Excel::Template::Plus. In a recent project I needed to write a plugin that could output the data as an Excel file. Previously I've done this talking directly to Spreadsheet::WriteExcel. However, these two new distributions help to provide the templating power of Template Toolkit, and interact with your choice of spreadsheet engine on your behalf.

Barbie - Introducing the UK Co-Ordinators

Abstract:

At the 2013 London Perl Workshop, six of the UK Perl Monger group leaders got together to talk about colaboration, guidance and supporting each other's groups. Out of this came the UK Co-Ordinators. This is a quick introduction to who we are, why we started it, and what you can do to get involved.
