Technical Meetings

The technical meetings are a monthly event, that aims to provide the Birmingham Perl community with an educational night of talks. If you wish to attend, please feel free to come along and listen in.

Talks Wanted: If you would like to do a talk, whether a 5 minute lightning talk, a 15 minutes talk or longer, please let us know and we'll add you to the schedule. If we are unable to add you to the schedule for the next meeting, we will give you priority at a future meeting.

Guest Speakers: Are you visiting Birmingham at some point in the future, and would be willing to give a talk? Or are you based outside of the West Midlands, but would be willing to make a trek over to see us and present a talk? If so, then I'd love to hear from you. Drop me an email with details of when you are in Birmingham and the talk you would like to present. I'll then arrange a schedule and confirm.

David Leadbeater - An Introduction to CGI::IRC

Abstract:

A basic introduction to the CGI::IRC Open Source project.

Barbie - Project: yacsmoke

Abstract:

With the release of CPANPLUS 0.50, all cpansmoke script support within the distribution has been dropped. As a consequence Robert Rothenberg began to code a more integrated cpansmoke script. The result was CPAN::YACSmoke. Following it's release to CPAN, Robert and I have been working to expand the capabilities of the distribution and its plugins.

This talk is an introduction to CPAN Testing and CPAN::YACSmoke. The talk will feature some examples of how to perform cpan-testing with CPAN::YACSmoke, a request for ideas to better serve cpan-testers and some self promotion of the yacsmoke SourceForge project.

Alex Chudnovsky - Building A Scalable Search Engine

Abstract:

Alex takes us through a look at search engines, and specifically building one that is scalable. A project that doesn't use Perl!!!! He'll tell us why :)
